I drive an 04 F150 with the 5.4 triton. I am looking for some tips on what i can do to increase my mpg's. I pull a 30ft travel trailor that weighs about 6000lbs and I am looking for little tips or mods that i can do to increase my mpg while towing? I put on a K&N cold air kit which i did notice a little difference but not much. Any tips will help!

 

i got my Edge Evolution tuner yesterday and install it and WOW is all i have to say.

 

Tuner is the way to go for better MPGs. I would go SCT or Gryphon though. If you are going to spend the money on a tuner, might as well get one that can be custom tuned instead of canned tunes from Edge.

 

you can custom tune on the edge one too, but i've just heard the other type are more user friendly when it comes to custom tuning

 

As far as I have seen, the only custom tuned edge is the Gryphon. Other than that it is a canned tune from edge. iNteresting

 

what does an edge tuner run price wise. And what kind of performance can i expect?

 

new edges run arould 400 bucks you can buy them used off ebay and place like that

Agree with most look into a flash tuner of some sort. We are a custom tuning dealer for SCT's X3 products and can help answer any questions you may have. And being an FTE member we can save you some bucks too.

 

A tuner will give you more power for the same MPG. All performance mods do that. You get more hp or torque but pretty much the same MPG. The best mod that you can do to improve MPG while towing is to tape an egg to the gas pedal and try to not break it! Find the "sweet spot" in your power band and cruise there.
Make sure that the gray water and black tanks are empty and carry as little fresh water as you absolutely must. Weight is a mileage killer. If you have something in the trailer that you did not use on the last trip consider whether or not you have need of it. Think about using something for more than one job. You can fry an egg in the bottom of a pot instead of bringing a skillet. That way you have cut your cookware in half. Properly inflated tires have less rolling resistance than under-inflated ones.
