Is anybody here running one of those roof mounted wings to help the air flow over the trailer? Any comments good or bad?
Thank you!
Jerry
I know I asked this once before, but I'm planning a trip and running out of time...
I don't have one and I don't have any personal experiences but I have read in trailer magazines that they do help and millions of big rig truckers can't all be wrong can they?
Since most trailers are much taller than the truck, they act like a giant sail and create a lot of drag. Supposedly the wing helps "lift" the air stream higher which reduces the drag. BTW I have read that a camper shell that is about level with the cab roofline has a similar but smaller effect, but also works when there is no trailer. I would guess the wing without the trailer would create a lot of drag and I think that is why a lot of the wings I have seen can fold down.
Don't know the answer but hope this is a good guess.
