Hey guys, I've got kind of a serious problem, now don't laugh when I ask, but its what I got, I have a 1978 F-150, long box that I just started drag racing last year with, Its got a 408, which will make around 500 horse this year and planning on running a transbrake, my dilemma is that im trying to get a driveshaft made for it thats 69 inches long. No one will make me one cause of course the length,a 4200 pound truck, transbrake, and I'm planning on crossing the line at a max of 6700-7000 range. Everyone Ive called says its way to long to run that rpm,, but my stock is a one piece. Any body else do this? Truck pullers or mud racers have to have done something similar cause they all run long boxes. Just looking to see whats out there and who has done something similar otherwise I'm stuck, Thanks guys.
They will make you a two piece set up? If so, go with that. A driveshaft for your application MUST be without compromise, and you should have hoops at both ends. Costs too much? Should have thought about cost before you built for drag racing.
A broken driveshaft can destroy your vehicle and kill you or anyone nearby in the process, so pony up and be safe.
