New to the forum her so please dont flame me. I'm in a pinch and don't have time to go through all the archives to find what i may be looking for. I got a h@ll of a deal on a 92 ranger. Bad clutch though. I cannot get the hydraulic line off of the slave end. I purchased one of those super duper high dollar tools and pushed the white clip in till it is flush. I still cannot get the line to come off. Any suggestions??
Take a thin flat-tip screwdriver and push it in a little further, then grab the line, give it a sharp push and then pull. That white collar has to go in far enough to push a ring of fingers all the way out of the lock-groove. If it's not coming apart, the fingers still aren't disengaged, so the ring needs to go in further. They can be stubborn, but keep at it and you'll get it.
Thanks BS. That's what I was thinking or at least wanting to hear. I did a mini search (before you replied) and found that you have replaced the clutch also. A little info can be dangerous, and a lot of info can be down right devastating. Did you need to replace your slave cylinder or did you do it just cause? Thanks again
I live in Ringsted, smaller than a dot on the map. I'm going to school in Mason City tho. Yea, my slave died and I actually replaced the clutch just cause. I put a pictorial of the process in my gallery in hopes it might help others. I didn't deal with the disconnect much in it, just showed a before and after and commented on how to do it. I had some trouble getting the coupler split, and the way I described is what I ended up doing. That plastic ring is made to split the connection, but it's not the easiest thing to use! Like I said, just keep at it and eventually it'll give in.
Don't get down in your area too often, tho I do end up in Des Moines for the Goodguys car show in July, that must be about an hour or so from you? Good to hear from another Iowa guy, there are a few of us here but not many.
