i have a 55 f250 that i wanted to change the motor for a bigger one i want to try an keep it a ford motor but idk what will and will not fit i want to put in at least a 300 or at least try and would i need to change the rear end and tranny and what other changes would i need to make
it also has a flat bed that i wanted to change to a short step side any help on that would be great
You could fit just about any ford motor in that big bay...lots of folks go with the 302 or 351...on up to the 460. Few different transmissions that could go in as well C4, C6, AOD, etc.
An 8.8 or 9 inch rear end is a common swap.
There are tons of threads relating to all of these swaps...as soon as you get some more posts under your belt you can use the search feature.
Where are you located? That will help as well especially if someone would want to trade beds with you, (like me for example!)
i had an f350 that was 30 foot long { car hauler , they had lengthened the frame } and i shortened it to a long bed . so why not buy a repop express bed / long bed or find you a 1/2 ton frame that you dont have too . i suggest this to you as it was a time consuming , labor intensive pain in the ars to get it right , square , etc. and put it back together . i also had a 360 fe in it so like he said you can put anything in there if you want .......... welcome to the madness , albeit a quite one , of this lil' hole in the internet universe !!!!!!!!!!!
Do you have the tranny and motor and stuff yet? There is a guy up here in the Redmond, Madras area that has a Mercury 4 dr with big block, auto trans and rear end, all ready to swap into something. I'll have to double check it, but I think it was a 429 with C-6 and 9inch rear.
i was talking wit my dad earley today and he suggested a 351 winsor small block he says its easy to find parts and and make into high performace motors
i was thinkn about a 429 i dont know much about them
what would you guys suggest
im planning on makin a streatrod/ street legal drag car
finding a donor car is the way to go. I found a 74 lincoln with a 460, c6 and 9" rearend and swapped them all. Pretty much a direct bolt on application.
It's pretty complete and he says it's a runner. It's in Madras, about 2-3 hours north of you. I can check it out, if you are interested, and get the details on it. If you're considering it, I will make sure you don't make the trip for nothing. I also have access to the tow truck at work, and can get it off his property and ready to load if needs be.
