...Well i don't know what year GM 12 bolt your looking at , but the ones i had don't have c clips & the bearing is pressed on to the axle....Lew

or just swap a 9" in and keep the truck he has..... get an aftermarket speed sensor that goes on the drive shaft screw rabs it doesnt do crap but give more interior lighting and if u dont like the pritty lights pull the bulbs
if u try afro engineering the 8.8 with this C-clip eliminator its going to cause more problems than what its worth and u still have the 8.8

i cant find the part now all the ones i find are electronic sending units for the trans but that would work too.... i know jeep camanches had them coz my dad had one it was a magnet on the driveshaft and then there was a halo around that part of the driveshaft with the pick up ok it....

Sorry Lew, then it's not one of the GM axles commonly called a 10 bolt or 12 bolt, likely you were looking at a dana 44.

This is fun. My 92 currently sits at 320,000 plus miles on the stock 8.8. And I have only changed the oil once. That's why I say that they are tuff axles. Yes I have seen them go at the bearings like you said with a nice groove. I have yet to see the C-clip end go but hear about it all the time. The 8.8 from Currie Ent. sounds like a good idea but would it hold up to desert racing? I'm not afraid to lay down the chainge to do something like that but won't if it breaks after the 3rd or 4th big jump. That's why I like the 9" because I know it will handle the abuse of off road racing. And you can still get floating axles for them.

I will, I'm going to be documenting the entire re-build for a tech artical I'm going to be submitting to "True Blue Trucks" Magazine. I'm hoping to help out all those other guys out there who have lifted or high performance Ford Trucks with 8.8 rears realize that they can keep the rear end they've got, and not have to go through swapping out just to get a stronger one.

My only concern is the point where the tubes meet the center section. I looked at the Currie site and saw the housings. So that solves the width issue. I'm looking for a housing that is 6" wider than stock to match the front. The 9" can be welded with back braces and such. Is there a special proceedure to weld the tubes on the 8.8?

This would work except I don't have a speedo hole in my T-case
