I just started my 2000 7.3 auto , went down to check on the cows and had to spin the back tires a little to get out of a mud hole. Then I saw the light on my trans shifter was blinking. The truck was so cold the temp gauge had not even moved yet. About 20 mins later I started her back up and the light was not on. I figured I would have to come back and disconnect the batteries to do that? Any ideas whats up? I need this truck as bad as my front teeth! It has 140k, can I trust her to tow anymore? thanks. Bad week to stop drinking.........
Save yourself a trip to Autozone, they can't read codes on our trucks. If someone lived close to you with a AE or something like that, they could help you out. Where in Texas do you live?
Streetman, Texas.75859. About 100 miles south of Dallas...... Added a little over a qt of trans fluid, drove the hell out of it for 3 miles. No flashing light? I'm confused.

yeah, it might have been low on fluid. With a code, we could tell you more about whats happening to the trans. We have lots of people in Texas on here, someone may read this and can help you with this. No flashing light is a good thing.
Could have just been a fluke... or it could possibly be the wiring going to the light has a short in it. It's not unheard of for the OD button wires to break... they are tiny little buggers.
Here's some possible explanations for a blinking OD light that goes away on its own.
1) when spinning your tires you might've stirred up some metal debris in the diff which temporarily stuck to the magnetic VSS in the top of the diff. Do you recall if the Speedo jumped around any when going a constant speed after you got unstuck?
2) the PCM monitors the input and output shaft speed sensors to detect clutch slippage and this might've happened while getting unstuck with a cold tranny.
3) repeatedly shifting back and forth between drive and reverse to get unstuck might've stirred up some crud in the valve body and temporarily causes a solenoid to malfunction.
4) if the adjustment is marginal on your shift selector switch which sends data to the PCM then repeatedly shifting back and forth between drive and reverse to get unstuck might've temporarily confused the PCM. The shift selector switch is located on the driver's side of the tranny so it's easy to check that connector and make sure it's engaged properly.
you said the tranny fluid was cold, sometimes when mine is really cold the od light blinks until it warms up a little. The code that pops up is a sensor high pressure input code, not sure why. Maybe when the bypass is engaged it causes it to push that code? I was told to pull the few sensors on the tranny and make sure they dont have any crud on them, never did but otherwise it runs normal. The other thing is i think the od light is also linked to the vss sensor on the pumpkin.
