I had bought a planishing hammer at Harbor Freight awhile ago when it was onsale for $99, I had always thought of building one, but at that price you can't buy all the materials. I have done a little bit of fooling with it, but today I needed to make a patch panel for the bottom tailgate post on my 58-63 style box, and it really paid for itself. There have been some questions in different threads about patch panels, and thought I'd post this to show that even an amatuer backyarder can fab up a decent patch and have it fitted in a few hours.
Old piece cut out. El cheapo Planishing Hammer Fitting homemade panel Panel tack welded in.

Sweet job, is it not amazing what can be done with simple tools.

For sure, and being a cheapskate seems to help as I find it rewarding to ressurect old garbage back to life. When that fails, only then do I pick up the phone and order the parts, you just have to hope you can still get them.
