4.6 problem

Drivin down the road the temp gauge goes from normal to pegged then the oil temp light come on. Then the
check engine light come on. Then my engine will slow down and start puttering. I turn off the engine and turn it back on and everything goes back to normal. The code I get is p1299 (coolant temp sensor). I replaced it and nothing new. I took the positive cable off the battery for 15 minutes. That help out for a bit driving 30 miles before it happen again. I did find oil on 1 of my spark plug but not much. Please steer me into the right direction.

Welcome to FTE possun33! Have you checked the coolant level? Sounds like it is low and that this is shifting the ECM into the fail safe cooling mode. Good luck!

I would still check the coolant level.

What year, how many miles?

There may be a blockage into the CTS and it is either heating the same water w/ no flow, or possibly an air lock....

It is a 1997 with 45000 on it. It is not over heating. It is acting like a air tube is off. The code I get is a p1299 but the discription is a manufacted controlled fuel and air metering. That is telling me it is something to do with my EGR valve.

P1299 = Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor Detected Engine Overheating Condition.

Coolant level? Air pocket?

I made sure all of the air tubes were on tight on Tues. Ran like a champ yesterday (105 miles). Then today I got about 2 miles away from my house and it started the same thing. I have replaced the coolant tempature sensor already, changed the oil, made sure I had enough coolant. Today after breaking down I took the EGR Valve Pressure Sensor off and I had 30% blockage from corrosion. I cleaned all of the corrosion out. Do yall think this will fix the problem?

Could be a bad sensor. As soon as the engine detects the "overheating" from the faulty sensor it could go into limp mode and not perform well in order to protect itself.

I found the problem late last night. It was my EGR pressure feedback sensor bad (corrosion) and a nicked wire on it.
