Towing/Engine Size

I currently have a 2000 4 Dr Explorer XLT with the 4.0L SOHC V6 that I use to tow a boat (approx 3400 lbs dry) short distances (2 miles) to/from the ramp where I put the boat in. I have no issues with how the Explorer and this engine handle the boat. But, I am now looking at the F150 Supercabs. My question is whether I gain anything by upgrading to the 4.6L V8 in the F150 or is the 4.2L V6 sufficient ? Am I over-working the V6 in any way ? Any comments appreciated.

I'd get the V8. I think the overall drivability would be better. I can't imagine the mpg being that much better with the V6 over the V8. You would also have a better resale value with the V8.
