Hi
has anyone installed a 5 point harness in a 78 F250? I have bucket seats that i installed but do I need different ones? I want to run my truck in a Mud bog but ummm running 40s well that bumps me up a class that requires this...grrrrrrso if you have any pics that would help alot but really anything would thanks jim
there was another post on this exact topic a month or so ago - doing a quick search for "5 point" and it should pop up. Do NOT bolt the upper straps of the 5 point to the ground/bottom of cab behind your seat!
I'm not a fan of the search function here - doesn't ever seem to come up with what I want. In fact just now in trying to find the link below I tried "5 harness" and then "racing harness" in the search and couldn't find the thread.
I then dug through my subscribed threads in my user CP to find it. Sure it's asking about 4 pt. harness' - but same thing and my 2nd search SHOULD have located it
Did you check your class specs for installation...Just did 5 point in a miata to SCCA specs..Your probably going to need a seat..We put the shoulder harnes atached to the roll bar brace mounted the lap & sub belt thru the floor bolted thru 4 in sqaure aluminum plates on the under side...I dont think you can floor bolt your sholder haness...The seat also had to be bolted the same way..You might be able to use the stock bolts that hold your original lap belts..Lew
Yea I asked this question last and I never really got an answer lol, so good luck.
What question did you have that never got answered? I believe the outcome was you either needed a roll cage or harness bar to mount them correctly. Not getting the answer you WANT is different than not getting an answer...

Back to the begining on this one.
1 - why not run a smaller tire size to get out of HAVING to run 5 points?
2 - 5 points can be made to work with all sorts of seats. What seats do you have now and why wouldn't 5 points work with them?
3 - What specifically are you looking for pics of?
I never got an answer... I just asked if anybody had mounted them without a rollcage, its obvious how to mount them if you have one... so maybe I did get an answer by not getting responses eh? lol Not meaning to give you grief or anyone else, your a fountain of information.
We had just said you're better of NOT mounting them without a roll cage or harness bar. You can mount them, but myself and others pointed out it can seriously injur you if you do it wrong...
If you MUST have them and you refuse to add a harness bar or roll cage then do a FORGED eye bolt through the back of the cab with +/- 3-4" dia washers on BOTH sides of the sheet metal. Use the harness instructions to find the location of the eyebold and the harness clips to clip on that eyebolt.
I would still be nervous about the setup listed above in a high speed impact/roll, but it will work for low speed stuff.
As for the floor mounts - do the same thing as above for the 5th "point"/submarine belt - meaning large washers where you attach through the flor.
The 2 sides can be tied into the stock seat belt locations.
Again - this stuff is MUCH better being attached to a properly built roll cage, but if you have to have the "race" look of a 4 or 5 point and don't want the race security of a roll cage then so be it.
ok so here it is:
1. I dont have smaller tires
2. As for the current seats..well there buckets seats out of a car
3. As for pics i was thinking if anyone had the (how to bolt them up)
but again all this info is helpful i think it would be best to install a rollcage in the cab, but dang that seems like a lot of work..sigh i had to get 40s grrrr
