Brake Problem

Hey Everyone,
My front drivers side brake has been making a strange noise for a while. When I am coming to a stop I can hear the brake go clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk until I come to a stop. It was driving me crazy so I took it to a shop and they said that it was probably a locking pin either not installed or not installed properly. They said that to fix it that it would be the amount of a brake job and my pads are almost new. They also said that it would not affect my brakes at all and that it could be fixed with the next brake job. Do you guys think I should leave it like it is or should I get it fixed? I have also noticed that my brakes squeal really bad sometimes too.
Thanks for any advice,
Drew

Personally, I would address any brake issue on any thing I drive !

As far a a "locking" pin,if they are referring to the retaining pin,it takes about 2 min. to "knock it back in". I would replace them myself.(they came out for a reason).

If your brakes are new, whoever put them on may not have everything installed correctly.

Not a hard job to do,if you can change a flat, you can put your own brakes on !

Definately need to get it looked at.

sounds to me more like the pad has come off the backing. I would pull the tire and then pull the caliper and look things over myself.

If they squeal and everything is ok then I'd clean them up and try again.

SD's are also known for the slide pins hanging up the calipers. I had my rear caliper hang up quite a bit, the slide pins were frozen up even on an 06 with 50k. The slide pins may need to be removed cleaned and re-greased. If this is the case make sure they use the high temp teflon grease. If you have new pads and the rotors are fine i wouldn't think it should cost you much other than the labor.
