The F-series has always been Ford's cash cow. They aren't going to stop making them, although the Ranger will be replaced with a new model F-100 (alledgedly).
At least Ford is trying to weather the storm on their own, and not latched onto whatever the government points in their direction.

I read in Automotive News just recently that Ford has put the F100 program "on the back burner."
Why? Because they do not have the funds to proceed with the program at the present time.
Ford is only weathering the "storm" because of a 23 Billion Dollar loan they received in 2005.
In order to get this loan, Ford put up ALL the company's assets...worldwide.
Ford's last financial report showed 9.1 billion dollars of automotive cash remaining.
So look for Ford to ask for bailout money if the economy doesn't improve by December.

I think you confused this with the ranger/f100 debate, which I think rangers will be around due to its own loyal owners. Right now isnt the time to drop one of the top selling lines at ford. It would be like ford dropping the money-making Mazda. It is a time to drop slow selling lines to reduce overhead, i.e. the venerable Crown Vic, T-bird, etc.
