I have never seen an o-ring there. I had an 88' and now have a 90'. I have been through both of them. I cant think of what they are refuring to. I wouldnt worry about it.
8.8's suck because of the C-cilps, You would be well advised to pop it apart and put in some O-rings, use the thickest ones you can fit and still get the C-clip in, put them in the corner closest to the cross-pin.
Also while your at it it's a good idea to rebuild and overpack the posi clutches, so the C-clips stay tight. And if there is ANY damage/wear to the cross-pin replace it.
Are they between the spider gear and the c-clip
or
between the c-clip and the pinion shaft
or
underneath the c-clip in the axle shaft groove?
Mine is an open diff.
Option 3, in the axle groove.
I have some ideas on how to shim out the C-clip play that I haven't had a chance to try yet, and would work with an open diff. If you feel up to it, I think it's a good idea, if you want to give it a try I'll explain

Thanks man.
Well, my c-clips went on nice and snug, with a slight bit of resistance, so I will assume that there was an o-ring in there after all.
I didn't inspect for o-rings while the axles were out because I didn't realize until after it was all assembled that they even existed.
