Stripped Crank

Can I rethread the crank to a larger bolt size?

I'm guessing the engine is still in the truck? It will be tough to deal with if it is. I won't say it can't be done but cranks are pretty hard steel and it will be tough to drill and tap, and it will be challenging to keep it true to the centerline. So far I haven't had to deal with that headache yet so I can't speak from experience. You might want to phone around to some of your local engine rebuilders and see what they suggest.

Thank You for your reply! Engine is in a stand. Can I replace the crank without rebuilding the engine?

Absolutely. I would assume you'd put fresh bearing shells and rear main seal in while you're there. Make sure you measure the journals of the old crank with a micrometer to see if it has ever been reground. Unless you know the history of the engine you can't really assume they are standard size. Then you have to mike the journals of the replacement crank to ensure you get the correct shells.
