1964 Factory PS question.
All one sould need to do is fab the bugger up. As long as the original stering box was there and it was only a hydraulic assist system would it be non compliant.
For that matter who was the original manuafcturer of add on PS in 1964?
My future wife can barely steer the truck at all and would like to get her more loving of it. The truck stays...........Did I say that.
I will google your link. Thanks.
As for the pump deal-in every catolog. Carpenter, concours, LMC, NPD, etc etc. They list a power steering pump for the 50's to 64 trucks. Could just be filler from the cars though.
I know at some point that they had PS on them as my buddys dad had a 60 W/ PS and he says it worked but had leaks. That was in the 80's though.

IMO Ford trucks didn't have a great ps system until the '73 Broncos and '78 F Series, when they introduced the integral boxes. I think I remember hearing that the early Bronc unit was actually a GM box? ND will know that one for sure. (If I'm wrong on those years someone please let me know?) And the Falcons, Mustangs, Cougars, etc had awful systems too, they must have had some stubborn engineers in the power steering development department back then.

As for the pumps being shown in many of the catalogs...well Y blocks were used as were the early FE's in big cars...the pump is the easy part...the gearbox and making something work properly is a whole other mess...

P/S was first offered FACTORY installed in 1966.
Take a gander here: Illustration Section 36, page 7. See what I see?
Ford offered power steering as a dealer installed accessory on V8 F100's and F250 2WD's beginning in 1958. The same basic system was used thru 1964.
Ths is Power Assist P/S. The P/S pump is an Eaton.
Its reservoir either bolts on top of the pump, or is remotely mounted on the fender apron (mostly seen on '53/64 cars with A/C).
1100-3A674 .. P/S Pump-Eaton.
Fits; 1958/64: F100/250 2WD's / 332/352/390 Galaxies / 352/390 Thunderbirds / 312/383/390 Mercury's.
If these cars had A/C, the pump was 1100-3A674-AC.
1953/64 passenger cars without the above engines used either the 900-3A674 pump or the 900-3A674-AC pump.
The Power Steering Control Valve & Ram Cylinder used on 1958/64 F100/250 2WD's are much larger than any car used.
These two parts are specific to F100/250 2WD's only.
Where can one find the parts? Good question.
I just found some similar parts NOS for another FTE member with a 1959 F600. That's right...P/S was available on these also: 1958/64 F600/900's.
The pumps/reservoirs are somewhat EZ to find, as are the brackets.
While the 1958/64 F100/250's used the 1100 pump, the only difference is the valving.
The 1100 pump has the exact same dimensions as the 900 pump. The reservoir is same-o same-o.
The P/S hoses can be made...but at what cost, I dunno.
The Control Valve and Ram Cylinder are almost non existant. WORSE = the seal kits for the valve and ram are even more non existant.
If it was me...I'd find some other P/S system to install.
IMO = It's not worth the trouble not to mention the $$$$ by installing the original system.
I belive a ND input is going to be the clincher here. I know that 1960 had PS. Where it came from is another story.
Factory PS and add on are two different deals. In the 60's almost anything could be instaled by the dealer. Engine upgrades, radio, power brakes, etc, etc.
Someone has done it just who?
What was the ram, The "steering motor", and bracketry listed as?
I understand that it was only power assist. and non integral to the main steering box but who made it.
PN's would be sweet as well as any links to NOS parts.
Thanks.
I will go with ND opinion and someday think about installing that. Toyota parts are not an option. I buy american if I can.
