Cam Bearings

I just got my camp cams cam for my 302 SD motor. I have good oil pressure - about 55 psig cold and 45 psig at warm idle. Since I am doing the cam should I also consider cam bearings?

You need a special tool to install the bearings, so it's not as easy as you think. I am not sure you could do it with the engine in the truck.

If you can't see the copper showing through and they aren't all nicked up you should be fine.

You can change all but the last bearing with the motor in the truck.

I've never attempted cam bearings with teh engine in the vehicle. They are easy to replace with the ight tool, which will run you about $250 minimum for a decent one. When you pull the cam out have a look at the bearings and the journals on the cam. If anything is scored, discolored, rough, or just plain worn pull the engine and replace the cam bearings. They are easy as pie when you got a bare block in front of you. At that point though you may as well do a complete rebuild if you're tearing it down that far.
