mods to 94 f150 300 6 e4od
I need a little advice before I complete the modifications to my 94 F150 short box, 2x4. It has 60,000 miles on it and is my daily driver. I use to it tow a 24 foot boat on a galvanized trailer that is equipped with surge brakes. It has tandem axles and the complete boat and trailer package weighs 5,000 lbs. I have rebuilt the E4OD trans (stuck valve, common to 94's I'm told) and added extra plates or clutches to it as advised in this column by an excellent trans shop. Extra leafs were added to the rear springs. The biggest trans oiler cooler I could find was installed. I use Castrol Syntec in the engine. I just purchased new American Racing rims and will be installing LT 235 R75 15s by Toyo M410. They are the number one rated light truck tire by Consumer Reports. They have a 29" diameter. I will need this truck to occasionally tow my boat approximately 50 miles each way for the next 5 years when I plan to purchase an F250 diesel. I would like to change the rear axle ratio to 3.73 and add a limited slip unit to it. I would appreciate your thoughts before I do this. I do not tow in OD as instructed by the trans shop. I have towed the boat on the interstate, no problem on the ramp either. Sometimes I need help in the traction department. The current gears are 3.08 and I have the stock shock absorbers. Any advice would be appreciated.
