Flywheels and flexplates

TigerDan, I tried to PM you this message but this it wouldn't go through, soooo. Thanks for the link on flywheels and flexplates...that's good stuff. Especially for me with the basic understanding down, yet I need to see the whole picture. At the bottom with the last two pictures and write up about the 50 oz weight and how it appears bigger or smaller flywheels, is the weight located between the outside teeth and center of the flywheel in the upper right hand area of the FW? I ask because I don't know. But the author said upper left hand area of the FW and I don't know what I am looking for.
Thank Man and Keep up the good Super Mod. work. It tis appreciated!

The imbalance weight on a flywheel is cast into the backside. It's the big wedge-shaped part of the casting clearly visible about halfway between the center and the outer edge. Here's a pic from my gallery that shows it clearly with both 28 and 50oz. flywheels in the same pic:

28oz. on the left and 50oz. on the right.

Apparently the author of the page I linked to for the sticky is dyslexic as he says "Upper left" in both photos but the imbalance he shows in the pics is actually in the upper right of both photos. That would be the cause of your confusion, you were indeed seeing the imbalance weights but because of the incorrect description it threw you off. I'll email the author of the page and ask him to correct it.

Below are a couple more pics I have, showing the weights used on flexplates which are actually welded on, and also the weights cast into the harmonic balancers at the other end of the crankshaft:

50oz. on the left and 28oz. on the right

Thank You, Tiger Dan! I kind of thought that wedge was the weight, but then I thought maybe I was missing something. And thanks for the pics of the flex plates and harmonic balancers. The side by side comparisons are what I will remember as to which is what weight. Should be simple and straight forward enough, but just double checking for the correct weight will save an engine from a simple mistake. Cool Info, well worth the read.
