Ok guys i have an 07 diesel and it has always had some oil accumulated on the bell housing area and such...but couple weeks ago changing my oil for second time myself...i noticed it was also on the flange of the oil pan on both sides where oil had accumulated around the bolts toward the back corners of the flange of the oil pan...and on the bell housing like its always been...is this normal is any leaking of the 6.0 considered normal?????? I wiped it off today so i can come back and look to try to track it down......any suggestions...or answers?
no it's not normal, it's a leak.
I don't want to be jumping to conclusions but I will say is it would be best to take it to the dealer, have them run some dye in the oil then find the leak and hope it's not the bedplate.
Mine had the leaky bed plate. Mabey 5 drops a week ended up on the floor, but the bell housing was coated. I just picked it up today after 2 weeks in the shop. Time will tell...
I would most definitly take it to the dealer to get it looked at. Take it to a dealer you trust to do good work because they will either pull the motor or lift the cab to get to it. They pulled the motor on mine.
Bedplate was my thought too. If it's under warranty, I agree just take it back to the dealer. You may have already seen this before but here's a great post by Wyatt66f100 on how to fix any 6.0 leak. While you may not want to try to tackle it yourself, you could use the info and try to track it down or have a better idea of the origin. May also keep you from being jacked around by a service department if you already know going into it where it's coming from. Hope it helps.
So can i put this off for a while???...Can not go without truck ofr 2 weeks at the moment...will putting off fixing a leak like this affect the engine negatively in any way???
If you have a warranty, take it in and get them to help you out with a rental if they will. I wouldn't put off fixing it too long though. It may or may not be the bedplate but it definitely needs to be fixed. If it's the bedplate, the engine comes out and/or the cab will come off. Depends on the dealer but most are now removing the cab. Best bet is like Benchwrench said - take it in and have them run the dye through it that way they can pinpoint the leak more accurately. I don't think it's going to affect the engine negatively for now but I wouldn't risk it.
