Yeah, I can't believe the "resistance" you have gotten from the resto houses on carrying your boots. I hope you patented the process, or you might find old Carpenter making them himself some day. I guess you have to be part of "the good ol' boys club" to get your foot in the door on that kind of thing.
The heater core replacements are made by Proliance at:
Yeah, I think he could do better than this one with a little selective shopping. The front part of the tube is probably still bolted to the front fender of the truck the heater was pulled out of.
Back in Oct last year a guy in Wash. state was parting out a '52 5 star option truck .Messaged him and asked what was available .It had the Magic Air heater , controls ,complete fresh air tube ,defrost ducts , locking glove box door .He had a set time to remove the truck from where it was .I offered him $100.00 for all the parts .He accepted . Shipping was $20.00 .Still a real good deal .Sold the vents for $21.00 which covered the S&H .The parts needed some work .Total media blast ,primer & paint .But have more time than $$ so they are all compete and ready for install .The heater even came with an original boot which was dry rotted & cracked but have a reproduction boot from inventory to compete the assembly .Had a spare motor cover plate ( badge )which finished it of .

if this is the control your looking for pm me
That's a control for the 48-50 Magic Aire which is what I used. You can see a picture of mine restored (and with 56 bezels and 51/52 ***** in post #19. The stock 51/52 control panel is the one Panelman posted.
Big difference is that on the 51/52 pull switch, there are only two fan speeds. The rotary switch on the 48-50 panel, has two speed detents, but is infinately variable in speed from off to full! It get's hot at lower speeds.
ya i've got 3 of them for some reason. my heater doesnt look like the ones posted.
it says ford on the front in old script letters like on the tail gate
Yes - Firstrider in post 37 makes them - the boots....they are premium quality and exact OEM spec. You don't have enough posts to send a PM but you should be able to send him an e-mail. If yo have problems getting ahold of him (Denny) let me know, and I'll hook the two of you up.
The duct is another matter. They are very few and far between. One shows up on e-bay about every 6 months or so.
Cotter5282 , have the rubber heater boot of which you seek .Sent you an email with all the info.Am personaly delivering 5 of each style boot ,the sq .end type for yr. specific 1952 Ford F-1 & up trucks equiped with Magic Air heaters and the 4"round end type for '51 Ford F-1 & up trucks w/ Magic air heaters and '51 & '52 Mercury M47 and up trucks w/ Magic Air heaters to NPD parts in Ocala ,Fla. fri. They will be offered in the latest catalog out soon .Am currently working on a mold for the e-brake cable boots for the trucks .These cover the adjustable end of the e-brake cable where it attaches to the pivot on the chassis behind the cab.Denny
You can find the heaters about once every couple weeks on e-bay. I have the heater core number and supplier if yo need it.
Julie,
Please send me the heater core number and supplier. I had my tanks installed on a new core, that wasn't quite right, by the worlds oldest living radiator repairman ( a dying breed) and it has started to leak. I would take it back to have him repair it, but I believe he has passed away. He had the only radiator shop within an hour of where I live.
Thanks,
Doug
The heater units themselves were the same from cars and trucks. In 1951 the blower motor on the trucks was moved inside as opposed to under the fender outside. The only difference betreen the 51 and 52 truck heaters is the shape of the metal mounting flange for the rubber boot that attaches the heater itself to the duct. In the 51 the flange end is round in the 52 its square. You know about Denny and the boots. I think he's making 51 and 52 boots now.
The car controls were completely different than the truck controls. The car controls were all side to side slides on a flat and later slightly rounded panel. The picture Panelman posted is the correct control panel for a Magic Aire from 1951 thru 1956.
The earlier truck heaters (up to 1950) had a control panel like the one I have (and will post a picture of) The switch on those was a **** that rotated as opposed to a 2 position pull switch.
These heaters are not rare at all. Heater cores and 6 volt motors are readily available as are switches. About the only thing that is rare about them is finding the name plate. I found the Chrome horn button off a 46 Ford fit perfectly as a replacement - even has 5 stars on it.
I restored mine myself and it was very easy to do. Be prepared for lots of rust on the inside bottom. Here is a picture of my heater during restoration. Mine is out of a 52 -note the square end of the rubber boot.
And installed - note the horn button - not correct, but better than the two bolts sticking
And my control panel which is out of a 1950 truck. I deliberately installed the wrong one in my truck because I needed to have a duplicate on the other side of the steering wheel to control the full front tilt (and the 51 control panel was not big enough), hood and overdrive cables - here are both of those.
Heatercontrol:
Full tilt hood control:
And finally, a picture of where the Duct mounts to the cab. If you are going to do a full front tilt, that duct is going to have to go. It bolts at the intake end to the front fender lip just above and slightly inside of the passenger side headlight (as Panelman showed in his picture). I am currently grafting the side fender vent from a 49 studebaker onto my cowl side (similar to the location of the luovers on the 56 cowl) to attach to the heater for outside air. I mounted the control **** for the vent door today. Note, I'm using 56 bezels.
This is a long post I know (so what else is new for me ) but I thought I'd add the extra about the full tilt since you had asked me about it in other threads.
You can find the heaters about once every couple weeks on e-bay. I have the heater core number and supplier if yo need it.
I have a 1951 Ford F1 and I'm in need of a heater but can't seem to find one. If you know of a supplier I would greatly appreciate it if you'd let me know who it is. Thanks.
