Talking Changing Rims

I want to change rimes from 16" to 17". Does anybody know how much that will effect the speedo reading as far as the MPH or the odometer.

Generally, I find the profile rating is lower on the 17's than comparable 16" rims. If in doubt, use this calculator to compare the two....

Tire size calculator

My truck originally had 16" and the previously changed to 17".

Original stock tire size was 255/70/16, tires are now 265/70/17 also a stock size.

My speedo is off by about +5mph at 65 (speedo reads 65 and my GPS says 70).

On an 02, I think that the speedo can be corrected in the ECM by the dealer (if your new tire sized is within a certain range) or with a tuner.

On my 97 I have to change the VSS drive gear.
I'm just waiting for nice weather and free time.....

Rim size doesn't matter, tire size does. When you decide what size tire you're going to use just "Google" tire calculator.

why 17's? Are you getting a good deal on them, or are they a style you really like and they only come in 17's? It's not a very popular size, and tires may be limited in sizes and/or pricey. Just something to think about.

They were given to me and I like them. They would look great on my truck.

what gear did you wind up with in the VSS drive gear on the 97? I started with 245/70/16 and changed to 265/70/17

I haven't changed it yet.
I was waiting for nicer weather to crawl under the truck and check what I have now, since nobody has been able to tell me which gear I will need.

I can't believe that none of the several dealers that I have been to can look up that gear and give me a part number!

I have 3.55 gear, and a factory option tire size, but every dealer I went to told me I have to pull the VSS out and count the teeth on the one I have.....

Unless you have the same rear ratio as I have, you will need a different gear I'd think.

When I get it squared away, I'll post it.
