Ok, so I know there are a couple posts on here dealing with this issue, unfortunately the most descriptive, one that contained pictures, now shows broken links in place of those pictures.
I have a 2005 SCREW Lariat with the console shifter, and yesterday the car wash busted the chrome cap off. I went to my dealer and got the replacement part. However, it is the top assembly, so I need to change more than the cap.
What is the best way to change that top half of the shifter out? My Haynes manual wasn't very descriptive and I'm fairly car-savy, so I thought it would be easier than it looks, or maybe I'm just missing something. I had my whole console apart and for the life of me couldn't figure out how to get this thing done.
So if any of you could offer some pointers or instructions, I'd really appreciate it.
I have the same problem. How did you get the shifter handle on. I just bought one and though it was going to be a quick fix. Now I am in a jam. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Had mine replaced by the dealer under warranty because the chrom was flacking off the very top portion. They replaced it while I waited, took less than 5 minutes to do. So I am sure its something fairly easy...
If all you need to do is replace the top, but you bought the whole assembly? Couldn't you remove the top from the replacement and install that part only? I would have to imagin it just clips on...
So this morning this is how I fixed the problem...
I had the new top half of the shifter assembly. I simply popped the cap off the new piece and then popped it on my already installed shifter. Wala...problem solved. It's now a $70.00 cap, but oh well, this is a Ford after all.
