I have a 84 f-250 with 460 the carb is get way to much gas and it leaks for the throttle link rod does anybody know why or what size the carb is on this year truck and what carbs i can use?
Haven't seen a carb leak fuel through the rod passage before, usually get an air leak though. I'm not sure what size carb it has, but a popular swap is an edelbrock 600, some people even use the 750. I am currently using a 600 but will be trying a 750 when I swap my motor this summer.
In 84 I think you got the Holley, is it kinda yellow, and will have a 5/8 hose going to the top of both the front and back sections/bowls?
If so you most likely have a float level/neddle & seat problem. On the passenger side of the carb in both the front and back there is a plug that is brass and has a slot for a flat screwdriver, this is the float level checking hole. Take this plug out, does fuel run out of this hole, if so the float level is too high. This can be adjusted from the outside of the carb without taking it apart or off the truck. On the top of the carb next to where that big hose connects you will see a screw with a nut under it. This is the float level adjuster, the screw is a lock down, and the nut the adjuster. By lossening the screw a bit and turning in the nut to the right you are lowering the float level. Be carefull though, that nut has gaskets on both sides that need to be intact so it doesn't leak. The float level should be just low enough that the engine can run with those plugs out and not have fuel running out.
The fuel leaking from the shafts is just a symptom of the fuel leaking in the carb due to the high float level, the fuel is basically over flowing the carb.
If this is hard to imagine think about a toilet the float level in the carb works the same way as in a toilet. If water was running out under the lid, you don't blame the lid, the problem is with the mechanism that is suposed to stop the water flow.
I just downloaded internet 8 explorer and know everthing on the web site says chevy silverado and larger chevy trucks.Does anybody know why this is or is anybody seeing the samething?
