ok i jus replaced the battery starter solenoid and starter and i believe i have everything wired right but then i turn the starter it tries to start the truck but wont stop its like the solenoid is stuck and this is the 2nd solenoid ive put on the truck its a 4 prong solenoid power starter power and s and i prongs
Sounds like something might be wired wrong. I'm not certain but I think I read on this site that if you have the "S" and "I" terminals reversed that this can happen. Have you tried swithcing them around?
yeah, id check out the ignition switch......have you turned the key on and jumped the solenoid? not sure if it would still keep crankin that way or not
The next time it sticks, pull the 'S' wire off the solenoid, and see if it lets go. If it lets go, you have a wiring problem or the ignition switch is bad. If it doesn't let go, the solenoid itself is sticking. If multiple solenoids stick, you could have too high of a current draw or high back-EMF which serves to arc weld the solenoid shut. Try the test first.
i ahve a 79 f-150 that has sat for a while i put a brand new battery in and when i turn the key to on it clicks and then as soon is a go to start it it does not do anything. would that be in the starter or the solenoid on the inner finder. thanks guys i am new to this forum thing so if i am doin anything wrong just let me know
Welcome to the site. If it clicks, the solenoid is probably okay. Check the battery voltage with a meter next time this happens and post back your results.
