Yes, I have done it that way with no problems just make sure everything is centered on the guide pins before tightening the U-bolts. I just used my floor jack under the pumpkin to hold it in place to install the U-bolts with it off the ground.
OKAY thank you both. Well, I dont know if any of you have installed a shackle reversal kit, but I guess you need to move the axle forward to get the center pin back into the axle. I dont see how i could possibly move the axle forward if there is a stock drive shaft on the truck that doesnt extend, its metal. Will things work better if I try differnt combinations of lowering and lifting the axle?
Both of your driveshafts will move forwards and backwards a little bit, otherwise you wouldn't be able to have suspension travel.
The rear slides back and forth from the tailshaft, the front is usually a slipjoint axle (little tube inside a big tube). You can use the stock shaft if you aren't lifting it too much, usually 4" to 6" is about max, depends on the truck.
For a front shackle reversal, you should be ok, just make sure your u-joints are in good shape.

Im an idiot. I had no clue, but that makes senses, otherwise the driveshafts would be snaping left and right if they couldnt move. Anyway I got everything all bolted up now after I simply just move the axle forward and watched the slipjoint spread. Thanks!
