Brake controller
Will be towing a 7000 lbs Trailer. Hear alot about Prodigy brake controller. Would this be the best and the easiest to install? I like to keep it simple. Also read some feedback in SUV forum about the Excursion being to low or to soft of springs for towing? They had to add a lift kit! any comments on that? My X'er has tow package and pigtail kit in glove box.
The Prodigy is one of the best IMHO. It performs flawlessly. You can scroll down the forum and find a lot of others who share that opinion.
The new vehicles make it a simple install. I installed mine in an older truck that was not pre-wired, and it was still easy to do following the included instructions.
Congratulations on the new 'X'! I highly reccomend an equalizing hitch for a 7000# trailer. That should level the tow vehicle and eliminate the need for any lifts. An equalizing hitch works by distributing the tongue weight of the trailer evenly over both axles. It also helps eliminate any tendency to sway in crosswinds.
Keep on coming back and share your towing experiences with us!
Thank you for the info. I do have an equalizing hitch and sway bar control. I was towing with a F150 but felt like I would not make the next hill. I had heard so much about the PSD that I knew it would be the answer to that problem. Yes it costs more but can you really put a price on safety and ease of mind? Besides We got a great deal on a lease return with full factory waranty still on it till 75k miles. Planning a trip real soon, will let you know how it goes. I think I will go with the prodigy. The Jordan sounds like it does a great job but have read to much about problems installing it. The prodigy seems like it does just as good with the least amount of install headaches! Thanks again for the input.
