Driveshaft Question
I have a question on the driveshaft length.
If I check local parts stores online for a driveshaft for an '83 F100 with an AOD trans, I find a shaft with a 35 1/2" length.
I assume that is the front section of the two piece shaft. They list the same part for short and long wheelbase vehicles.
If I check the same part for an 89 F150 2WD with an E4OD trans, the length is 39 1/2" even though the wheel bases are the same as an '83.
I expected to find the '89 front shaft to be 30 1/2" long, since the E4OD is 5" longer than the AOD.
Does that mean that the pillowblock is moved 9" in the later model trucks?
I think in that case I will need a '89 or later driveshaft, and move the crossmember for the pillowblock. It should be easier to get an '89 shaft than shortening the front shaft of my driveshaft.
Do the E4OD and the AOD use the same yoke and spline?
You may be right about the 4x4 shaft. I'll have to check that. This is the description:
Propshaft; Front; w/117, 133" & 155" Wheel Base; Length: 35 1/2"
It doesn't specify 2WD or 4WD, but it gives the wheelbase.
I also just found out that the driveshaft spline and yoke are different on a shaft for an E4OD, than the spline and yoke for an AOD.
I'll have to research the driveshaft for an '89 and up 2WD with an E4OD. A used '89 shaft from the same wheelbase vehicle may fit without any modification.
I need a website that supplies driveshaft specifications.
