I was "flushing" my transmission and replacing my spin on filter when I realized I am not really flushing the cooler. Has anybody found an easy way to flush the cooler as well? 2006 V6 auto, 4wd XLT
Yes I took a spin on universal filter for hydraulics and put it in the line between the tranny and the cooler. There is no easy way to flush the cooler with some force to get everything out? I know you just do the drain and fill on the tranny.
Would you post some pictures of the spin on filter? I have mine (2005 V-6 4x4 XLT) flushed out with a machine at a local shop but, as you know, the factory filter is not owner serviceable. Your idea is of great interest to me.
I was under the impression that you were supposed to drain and fill the tranny several times instead of using a flush machine on the actual trans. Anybody used a flush machine and have any issues with it? Dan I will try to get some pictures, basically I just put it behind the left fron inner fender, it is a remote mount oil filter basically.
the easiest way I've found is to take it to Jiffy lube and they plug in the machine that pumps the new fluid in and the old fluid out. Takes maybe half an hour if that.
Is there an issue running Mercon V in an 05 tranny? I was going to do that but the guy (kid at Jiffy Lube) told me it could damage the tranny so I went with the standard Mercon.
Someone else will probably be able to answer your question as to weather it is OK to use Mercon V when doing a complete transmission flush. I can say that you shouldn't mix the two together as would be the case if you only replace the four quarts at a time. I was told in very plain terms by a Ford Technician that Mercon V is synthetic and regular Mercon is not and the two should not be mixed. The owners manual that came with my 05 Escape is also very clear on not mixing the two fluids.
