fuel pump question

why does my fuel pump run for 15-20 seconds after shutting down the engine on my 04 F-350? Just curious. Guy I got it from said all of the older model 6.0's do this to prevent fuel from boiling in the injectors?

Their is a thread about this going around right now. Unfortunately, I can't find it to point you to it. There was a flash done to your truck's computer to make it do this to clear the injectors. If I find the thread, I will post it here for you.

The fuel pump shouldn't be what your hearing, this is a link to Inductive Heat Flash.

You have what's called the buzz flash to clear the injector spools of oil. There is a later flash called the inductive flash that does that at start up thru electrical induction thus eliminating the buzz. The later flash also exercises your turbo and varies rpm's after X amount of idleing.

The inductive is considered better because it exercises the turbo.

Depending on the dealer usually about an hour of labor.
