I dont know if I should say slower cranking or taking longer to start when cranking...
I have not plugged my truck in for about two weeks now. And I have noticed that after letting the glow plugs burn for about 20 seconds, it still takes about 5 seconds of cranking to get the truck to start. That is unless in the morning where i let it burn for at least a 30 seconds and it normally takes two times of doing that to get it started.
I am going to plug my truck in tonight and let the glow plugs burn like normal tomorow morning and see what happens.
I also have a fuel leak, that is now getting on my nerves that I am leaving fuel drop lines in my parking spot going to and from at school and at my house. Would a fuel leak cause a longer time to crank to start?
Sounds like either your GP or GPR are weak or dying. Mine usually starts up in about 1 sec of cranking plugged in or not it just warms up much faster if it was plugged in. And since we are both in the exact same temperatures its not a weather /block temp factor. Have you ever checked your GP sysytem the relay, plugs, etc. If one or two Gp are dead/ weak it will take more to get it started. Does it smoke much after you get it started? If so how long?
Once you get those changed out it should start a lot better. In the mean time just make sure you plug it in whenever you shut it off assuming your somewher you can and that'll make it easier to start. I still plug mine in almost every day,... gotta remember this Colorado you can use the heater and the A/C on the same day an hour apart, that we get the majority of our snow in town in the spring. Like tonight,... I'd plug your truck in now if you havent already his storm is supposed to be pretty good, and my driver up on the mountain have been on the phone w/ me all night telling me how heavy it snowin up there, and its heading our way.
I would usually say 30 truck drivers who drive the mountains every night should know what there talking about,... but then again I do know these guys,.... and they make me wonder sometimes.
I plugged my truck in and my mom even let me put it in the garage. That way I don't have to scrape it off. But I will try and get the glow plugs done some time soon.
I know that feeling Ive got enough things scheduled to be done to my truck that when I get some time off later this spring Im gonna tear apart and rebuild my fuel system (several small leaks), exhaust (switching back to stacks), some latter bars, another detroit locker, Custom IC, 1.0 turbine turbo, and stage 2's. Assuming I get the time off of work and everything plays the way I expect.
