Hey Julie, about that link. I thought that 66-352's were black with gold valve covers, or maybe I just dreamed that sometime. The link said all 6cyl and V8's, 65 thru 70 were medium Ford blue? I know this topic is talked about every so often but is that link correct? Were car engines painted different color than trucks? Just wondering!

Take my advice, I'm not using it!
I dont know. I think with the "windsor" blocks (289-302-351) they started painting them all the same color regardless if they were in a car or a truck.
The Y-blocks though were painted different colors though.
Only thing on that site it doesnt say about the late 70`s if they were dark or medium or light ford blue. I have seen all three colors at Advance before.
That link though is for the engine colors you can get on the valvecovers they offer though. I think 352 for instance in 1960 was a black engine with gold valve covers. Atleast thats what the instructions said to paint the engine on the 1960 Ford Starliner model I had as a kid.
There seems to be a lot of web sites out htere about engine colors, and an equal amount of disagreement on colors. And, yes most of them site that truck engines were painted different colors that car engines. If anyone can find a site that can definately and authoritatively prove the correct colors, I'd be happy if you would pass it to me for future reference. But I haven't found anything that is all inclusive or that doesn't conflict with othet info in some way.
But, it seems that they don't distinguish what they are calling a "Truck!" Most of them mean "Big Trucks" as trucks and say the pick-up engines were the same color as car engines. (F7/F8 etc). When you get into Y-block engine colors it gets even worse.
So, I guess if you are a stickler for correct engine color, and the web sites differ on what it should be, just pick the one you like and go with it. If any one wants to challange you just refer them to the site you picked.
To avoid this problem I just paint everything PINK!
I think the 55 223 is actually supposed to be yellow based on my research. I just don't want to have to paint a newly rebuilt engine yellow. If anything, I am going to paint it Ford Blue.

Please---don't paint the engine Ford Blue. That is so wrong--a vintage Ford engine from the 50's should NEVER be Ford Blue. I have seen this at Truck Shows and it never has a right look to it. Smacks of cheap non-vintage engine rebuild.
Paint the engine block black and the valve cover Ford 50's Red.

Ok, but can we at least agree on the fact that a yellow engine is completely fugly? I just couldn't stand seeing a yellow engine in my truck, ever.

The yellow engine was from the early 50s. I am old enough to remember these 223s when they were new and they were black blocks with the same Ford Red as the 292s from that period (1960).
If the block is supposed to be black, and the valve cover is supposed to be red, then what color should other parts be painted then, like the starter, pulleys, distributor, etc? Several of the manuals and books that I have say that the 1955 Ford Truck 223 engine should be yellow.
My block is a lightish to medium blue Ford color. I have scraped under that color and it goes directly to bare metal.
