Gas Mileage Question

I just bought a 87 4.9L 300. It has a 4 speed with granny low. I'm getting about 14mpg regardless of how I drive it.

Is this about normal?

Any suggestions on improving it?

in town or on the highway,i get 15 to 19,16 is about average

You are doing better than I ever got with my '85 F150. It had the carb'ed 4.9 and the four-speed, 4x4 and it was bad on gas. I averaged 10-11 in mixed driving.

Like with any vehicle, slow down, make sure it is properly tuned and the tire pressure is correct.
