I always get a kick out of the JW movies where he gets out of the military right after the Cival War and is immediately armed with a Winchester '92 and 1873 Colt SAA.

BTW Matt Dillon used a Great Western SA in Gunsmoke, I've always heard/read.

The "Rio" movies are my favorite JW pics. There are a bunch of others that are just about as good. I used to not particularly care for his WWII movies, I start liking them better as I get older.

Great Western: 1950's German copy of an Colt SAA. Take a screw driver along if you plan on shootin' more than a coupla rounds at one time.

It was because of this el cheapo German copy, that Colt re-introduced the SAA in 1956. These Colt second generation SAA's serial numbers are preceeded by SA.

The third generation introduced around 1981 have SA after the serial number.

During WWII, the studios were not allowed to do any filming on location after dusk.

Most films were shot on back lots, using back footage from other films, WWI newsreel footage and from other real events.

Many of the prints of these films have faded badly, which makes the back footage more apparent.

Because of how they were shot, most of these films are just terrible, regardless of who starred in them.

The Fighting Seabees and Back to Bataan are two JW films that fit this catagory.

btw: The bulldozer sequence used in The Fighting Seabees actually occured on Guadalcanal in 1942.

Clint Eastwood in Heartbreak Ridge paid homage to that event by using a bulldozer to trample a machine gun nest.

Pick up the driven gear from the Dealer, #DOAZ17271B. It is a 16 tooth gear that slants right ////. I'll put in tonight and have my wife pace me in a newer car to check accuracy. Also may not know much but a couple of you guys might be just alittle off topic.

1SAINT: I have the same setup you had before you changed your rearend from 4:10 to 3:55. I also have an 87 F250 6.9 with the c6 and 4:10 rearend. How much difference was there after you went to the 3:55 and how did your mpg change. Was there any problems changing the rearend? Does the engine seem to strain or does it run better?

The 1980/89 Ford parts catalog shows illustrations of every speedo driven gear with the shaft pointed downward.

The 17T driven gear the parts catalog calls for your application has the teeth slanted the same way as the 19T driven gear you said you have now, like this: ////.

The DOAZ17271B driven gear has teeth slanted this way: \\\\. It is not listed for your application. No 16T driven gear is...regardless of which way the gear is slanted.

If you bought a 16T driven gear with the teeth slanted //// it's not DOAZ17271B.

I changed the speedo gear in my transmission a few months ago. Somebody, forget who said 1 tooth for every 5 mph. My speedo was showing 10 faster then I was going so I went 1 tooth and it put my speed about 4mph closer than what it was. The teeth were slanted the same way in the new as the old gear.

I never used the word hijacked, just alittle off topic. I really do appreciate everyones input. Whatever the part # is the gear I was given by Ford seems to be about right. I haven't had a chance to pace the truck with another car yet, I have to work today. I drove to work and the speedometer is closer. I now turn about 2700 RPM at 65mph. The math says 2501 RPM with 3.55 gears, but I figure I'm need to add some RPM for the torque converter. I just don't know how much.

dyougen, I like it, the truck liks it. I should have change the gears a couple years ago. It's nice to be able to drive with traffic on the freeway.

Thanks Everyone

I'm sure there are those that would be interested in the accuracy, please post back once you have had the opportunity to either pace it or time it.

I am one!
