P by the 4WD control?

Hello...I recently bought a 2001 F350. I can not figure out what the P button by the 4WD controls is for. Can anyone help me?

I believe its the shut off for the backup sensers. i.e. when backing up with a trailer attached so you dont have to listen to it... If you turn it off, it resets every re start.

Since I so often don't know the answer to people's questions, I'll throw in my answer even though someone else answered it for you already. It's for the reverse sensors, for when you're backing. It's turns it on and off so you don't have to listen to it when you're backing a trailer.

Second time around the answer sounded better so it was not in vain

When doing all my shopping, I noticed there were some trucks that didn't have that switch - wonder if that means they didn't have the sensors? I can't imagine having them and NOT being able to turn them off when trying to hook up a trailer - how noisy!!

Actually, I disabled the switch. I like to have another thing going on when I'm backing my trailer, so usually it's the wife using hand signals that I can't understand, or yelling directions I can't hear while the kids are screaming at each other or about getting out to go pee while I'm backing the trailer, and now it's the incessant noise of the rear sensor going off too. I think it makes me a better trailer backer. I wouldn't get a truck without it!

The back up camera on my 08 probably saved my marriage. Nothing better than backing up, backing up, backing up, the wife motioning the whole time and then WHAM "OK stop, now pull forward a little bit".

I've actually gotten really good backing by myself. I can usually (say 9 out of 10 time) back right up to the coupler. I just have to creep up until i feel the coupler just touch the hitch. My jack doesn't go down far enough since I leveled and lifted the truck, and I have to put a 6"x6" block under the foot of the jack. Last time I was in a hurry and knocked the trailer backwards and off the block. it was kinda muddy so the jack sank way down in the ground. Thank goodness I carry a Hi-Lift jack in the bed. Serves me right for not having my chock blocks in place so the trailer don't move.
