this has bothered me for a long time. I have a 2000 F53 motorhome that has a tendency to lock up at low speeds. When I come up to a traffic light and stop the vehicle jerks, and dies as it stops. If I place selector in neutral while slowing the problem occurs as the selector is placed in drive to take off. It lurches and jerks and dies again. If I rev the engine and let it jerk a few times it will proceed. It often takes several attempts. This problem only occurs occasionally. Any ideas?

I would say the torque converter isn't releasing. I have heard on this site that if your low on trans fluid it will do that. Good place to start, if not you might have to have it looked at.

thanks;
This problem may indeed be the torque converter. It really seems like something is sticking. I thought the isssue may be a locked up converter but I really didn't know if it even had a locking converter. I am not real familiar with Ford stuff. The trans dipstick is about five feet long. Reading the dipstick is not very accurate as it has a white plastic nub on the end that is covered in fluid. Is the check hot and running as others?
intermittant. More now than previous at 70K. I have not noticed OD light flashing. It is a very solid mechanical problem. The motor home weighs 16,000 and we tow a trailer 5,000 lbs w/ race car. It really jerks. I will do the proper service over the weekend. Trans flush for this critter is BIG $. Thanks again for all the help.
