summit is prob. the best place for cheap headers.....others will chime in and say if your motor is stock or not, so you can figure out which ones to get......where do you live and what is wrong with your cab?

and dont mind him^, he cruises this site at all hours to tell people looking for help that their posts are worthless

You need to start searching junkyards for a driveshaft. That is where I found one. I'm sure you can find a cab and box there too. I'm putting a 71 f100 ranger body on my 76 f250 chassis cause my body is junk too. I was told the wheelbase is 2 inches less on the f100 so I will leave a little more gap b/w the cab and box. I'm sure you can find a body in the junkyard for you just check the wheelbases if you are worried about the 2 inches.

Also your frame will be narrower in the rear than a 2wd or half ton 4wd. You have what is considered a "highboy" (34"frame width in rear compared to 38"). all that means is you have to drill different holes in box if needed.

First off i would like to welcome you shmoody to the site, there is plenty of informative people on here, and you can even meet new people, and share ideas and learn new things, and even share pictures and videos of 73-79 dentsides! also you can pop over to the 67-72 area once and awhile, our trucks share alot in common, and if you need any help at least part wise for your truck or anything elese please look up a user by the name of Numberdummy (Bill), he is a retired ford part counter man, he has all the books and every thing else on old fords and knows volumes of info, if you need help ask for him, and from the sounds of it you have one nice truck!

secondly 76f350spercamprspeal i don't think shmoody can even post pictures, he only has 2 posts at the time i am writing this, and he just became a member March 2009, i agree pictures are worth a thousand words, but if he can't post them or doesn't know how, then we won't see any pictures

oh please click this link shmoody, its a old thread i started on how to post pictures, i am not sure if you can yet, i know once you hit 25 posts you get more features on here

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...-pictures.html

thirdly you said you needed headers? i have heard and know from first hand experience that getting headers for a 73-79 dentside ford can be a real headache, my truck is totally custom it has a 1971 302w in a 1977 f-150 short box 4x4, and a 80s (rebuilt and upgraded to 4x4) Lincoln AOD transmission and that's bolted up to the factory 77 NP205 transfercase which is married of course, headers where a pain, first off i had a set of headers for the truck, but that was before i found the mint 4x4 frame, then i tried them in the new frame, and no luck, the full length headers where tight as it is, but the drivers side went right into the front driveshaft, so i ended up getting stock shorty headers from a 80s 5.0 mustang, i plan on bending up the exhaust to the shorty headers, then i can just bend the exhaust to the clearence i need

now for your truck, there should be aftermarket headers, there wasn't after market for my custom job, because ford never made a f-series 4x4 with a 302w till the 80s and those 80s trucks are way off from the 73-79 ford trucks, best advice hit summit, jegs, even your local autozone or Napa or O'reillys (i am assuming your American so those places are common to you, i live in Canada see my locaiton its in the top right hand corner of one of my posts, you can go into your usercp (which is on your top left side of your screen, its above the 1973-1979 F-100 And Larger F-Series Trucks) and add your location and even edit your profile and signature that appears on your posts, also i would suggest you put in shorty headers if you can't find actual 360/390 full length headers for 4x4 73-79 ford trucks, you can always bend up the exhaust to meet the headers, which can be easier than trying to sqeeeze in headers that don't fit or don't clear everything

not sure on driveshafts, your local auto wreckers would be a good place to check, but you might have to get a new one made, and i know thats big bucks, but it may be hard to find a truck with the right length of driveshaft, and the right era of ford truck aswell

also it sounds like you have a highboy? it has the divorced transfer case and its a f-250 and 1977 is the last year for the highboy

also i hope this post helped you out in oneway or another anyways your truck sounds like its a nice one, can't wait for more info and pictures, best of luck with it! and keep us updated!

I just got a set of headers for my 74 F100 4x4 390. Got them from Summit. Here is what I got
Dynomax Performance 85066 - Dynomax Blackjack Painted Headers
Not sure how they will fit. I will be putting them in this weekend. Hopefully they go together better the Brents headers did.

As far as a cab, where are you located? I have a cab from a 74 F100 parts truck I have that is in decent condition. Just needs rear cab corners.

well shmoody, the best way to tell if its had a motor swap and many people might disagree, all you have to do is, ask the truck have you had a motor swap, if it says yes than it has, if it says no than its the original motor!

all jokes aside lol lol you can get the vin code off the motor block, and run that code, i know i ran the code on my motor, and it came up as a 1971 Ford Torino 302w, the motor came with the truck on the side, the one under the hood was tired and leaking oil every where, so the older rebuilt 71 Torino 302w replaced the tired 302w under the hood

the code on my motor was by the starter, it was facing towards the floor, facing down towards the starter, i am not sure where the block code on your motor will be? you can also run the vin number and see if it has the same size of engine as whats under the hood, other than that i have no idea on how to match the motor to the truck? hope this helps? and best of luck! and can't wait for more info and pictures!

yeah, the block #s are behind the starter.......do you know for sure that its a 360? the vin will tell you what the truck originally came with

on my 302w the code on the block was stamped into the motor, not sure about your motor, i am sure someone with your motor will chime in, also tomorrows day light will make things easier to see, its dark enough under there, let alone at night
