Elec. Brake

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Jul-02 AT 08:27 AM (EST)]several ways are possible. I am assuming you mean the normal brakes, but I will give info on testing your emergency(break-away brakes as well)I will give two methods that may work for you, in testing either brakes, or emergency brakes.

TRAILER BRAKES (ACTIVATED BY TRUCK AS YOU SLOW OR STOP)
1. Attach empty trailer to truck. Jack up one side of trailer, so tire(s) are off the ground. Have wife sit in truck and push down on the brakes. try to turn wheel by hand(make sure the wheel you try and turn is one that has the brake) if it turns, you need to check your connections.

2. If you are alone, or cant find someone to activate your brake pedal, then use a 2X4 to hold the pedal down.

EMERGENCY BRAKE (BREAK-AWAY BRAKES)
1. Activate emergency brake. With trailer empty, jack up one wheel and try to turn by hand. If it turns at all by hand, then you have a problem.

2. park truck with trailer attached on a slight incline. Activate your emergency brake on trailer. put truck in neutral and let off brake. If truck rolls freely you know there is a problem.

These methods should work well for you. If not, I'm sure some of our other members can come to your rescue.

Good luck
Drew

I tested the trailer break. Now, the elec. brake controller has an output controller and a sync controller. I move around these controller level, running with empty trailer on back. I locked few times smorking tires! and then moved the controller level down ... Using two controller, I confused and not quite figure out the levels at all. How can I find the better levels, or what is the acceptable stopping action?

How to activate the emergency (break away brake)? I can see the small object labeled "break away brake" with a wire attached in the middle, and two wires. How does it work?

Best Regards,

Gohan,
Well sounds like your brakes work, when using your controller, now of course where you decide to adjust their sensitivity is up to you. What type of controller are you using?

On the breakaways, pull that cable out of the unit. Pulling it out will activate the brake, and then you can test it.

I would have responded right away for you, but I missed your post, and only pulled it up accidently. Email me if you have more questions.

Thanks
Drew
