Hi, Im going to be taking apart my front automatic hubs on my 95 4x4 f150. I need to know if there are any special tools or sockets that I will need for removing anything. Anyone help me out?
You may need some snap ring pliers and some dental picks to dig out the retaining ring on the OD. You only need the special socket if you are going to take the whole rotor/hub assembly off.
no there are no special tool. unless you plan on replacing the hubs. there is a wheel retainer nut in the back before the baring. if you jam a chisel on one of the flat sides and on the wheel hub then spin the tire it should spin out.
i thought the hardest part was the snap ring on the wheel hub. you have to get that out before you can take the hub out. i straightened out a fishing hook for that worked good.
Thanx for the info sounds easy enough to do. I do have to take the brake rotors off to replace them so I will have to to take eveything apart and I also have ball joints to do on the one side.

Then it's much easier to buy the special socket if you are going to do that, instead of using a chisel.
Our local Checkers Auto store has several sets of those special sockets that they let their customers borrow w/ a $100 deposit. When your done, take 'em back and they will return the deposit. I've gone to that store about three or four times now just to borrow those sockets, it's a pretty handy service.
