my 99 f250 has 165000 and it had the balljoints changed probably around 110 with the greaseable moog units installed. Now ford is telling me that the clunking I hear from the front left is the balljoints. I don't buy it, last time the tires were worn at this point so bad that the inside of the tire was really burned down because the tires were toed(?) in so hard. I was looking around underneath and it seems like I might have a bad trackbar bushing or tie rod end bushing. Does anyone have any good pictures of a good condition bushing??? I dont think these are good. here's what mine look like......
if you can see in the first picture, the link is touching the sway bar metal on metal. Could this be my clunking?? Can I press the bushing out and install a urethane one?
with ur milage its a very good chance u have swaybar or trackbar bushings worn out...
easy way to check ur balljoints is suspend the front axle, leting the wheel hang, then get a 2X4 or similar long par bar and have someone put some lifting pressure directly under the tire...
watch for any movement, if the balljoint is worn, u should see some play at the knuckle..
but i bet that isnt the case in ur truck, since u replaced em..
p.s. have u regreased em recently ??? if not flush em with fresh grease and watch what color/crap come out from the boots..hopefully u dotn get any rusty water pouring out which would be a bad sign...
