Post towing with 2000 E-150 Question

I need to go pick up a 1963.5 Galaxie later this month (about 900 miles away). I sold my 2000 f-150 5.4L and am currently without a tow rig.

My father-in-law has a 2000 E-150 that has been converted with wheelchair lift and a "high-top" that he said I could use. It has the 4.6 liter in it. I just don't want to nuke his trannie/engine by over-towing.

The trailer I will be using weighs about 1200lbs(?) and the car I will be hauling weighs about 4000lbs. With the added weight of his lift and "conversion" do you think that I would be able to tow this car back?

I really miss my F-150 right now!

Please e-mail your advice, I don't check this group often enough.
THANKS,
Mike B

towing with 2000 E-150 Question

Check out: http://www.fleet.ford.com/products/rv_trailer_towing/2002/2002_default.asp

I believe an E-150 can tow around 6,800 lbs when, and this is a big when, properly equipped. If not, the towing capacity is somewhere around 3,000lbs. Properly equipped usually means tranny cooler, tall diff gears and a bigger engine.
