I have a Prodigy controller that sometimes gives the flashing indicator that is suppose to mean that "trailer is connected and Prodigy loses connection to battery ground." The problem is that this occurs when there is no trailer connected. It typically appears after driving the vehicle and then stopping for a short time, say 5 minutes, and then restarting the truck while the Prodigy is still turned on. Is this normal or do I have some problem with the Prodigy unit or the wiring that I need to address?
I think it flashes 'UC', meaning trailer unconnected. Just to remind you that your trailer is not plugged in.
I havn't really paid attention to it in a while. I'll check in my user guide and post back if it's any different.
Do you have a copy of your user guide to reference to?
Okay, I read that in the user guide too. Too bad they don't recommend a solution for the problems listed in the troubleshooting guide.
I can only suggest checking all your wiring for good connections. Sorry, I know, you already thought of that and don't need me to point out the obvious, LOL! You didn't say if you're truck was prewired with a factory plug or if you ran the wires yourself. The user guide warns against landing the ground wire to the dashboard. I ran my ground wire straight to the negative terminal on the battery.
You might check back with Tekonsha to see if they have a hot line for technical assistance.
Please keep us posted when and how you resolve your problem.
I got a reply from Tekonsha tech support. Apparently the Prodigy is seeing a drop in voltage when the truck is started and interprets it as a loss of ground. Since it is clearing right away, it is nothing to worry about. Something like the air conditioning kicking on may cause the same thing.
