First, I used to be in the motorcycle business and sold extended warranties from an “independent” source. My commission was 50% which shows how much money is available for the company to throw around. I decided then that I would never buy an extended warranty.
Second, I did eventually buy an extended warranty for my ’06 diesel. I paid $1,450 for it with over 90K on the odometer. At 118K, the EGR cooler went out and the estimate to repair was $2,650. My cost was $0.00 plus Ford picked up the rent car. Then, at 120K, some high pressure fuel injection thingamabobby went out and the estimate to repair was $1,350. My cost was $0.00 plus Ford picked up the rent car. You do the math.
BTW, when the EGR cooler went out, it was due for the radiator flush and Oil/Filter change. They were part of the repair and I got them for free. I guess I really did get over for once.
See Jim, that's what I'm worried about - that just about the time I start to relax and think eveything is fine, some thingamabobby is going to fail/break/blow up and I'll be kicking myself for not having covered the truck when I could. For some reason I'm especially concerned about the AC controller.
You don’t have to be concerned about the AC controller. It’s not covered anyway. Ford’s definition of “powertrain” is only the engine – and only certain pieces of the engine.
I’ve been checking this website for a few years and, although I mainly lurk and just learn a lot, it has been very educational and valuable. This website has taught me that I can have faith that my ’06 model has most of the bugs worked out of it and if fairly reliable.
However, my logical mind decided that it was likely that at least one of the big problems (head gasket, EGR cooler, oil cooler, injectors, or turbo) would likely cause problems before reaching 200K. Any one on those would have cost more than the warranty. I have saved a ton of money and still have 80K miles of coverage.
In fact, I saved so much money that I have used my wife’s shopping logic to my advantage. My wife’s logic is that she saved so much money on the new clothes she bought that she can now afford new shoes as well.
I just saved so much money that I have ordered a SCT X3 and new Ranch Hand front bumper.
One other thing I forgot to mention. I will still never buy any extended warranty EXCEPT the Ford ESP. Read the fine print very carefully and you’ll find most aftermarket warranties have a ton of “gotchas” embedded.
yea most aftermarket (if not all) have fien print clauses, that basicly allow them to wriggle out of paying for anything that might actualy go wrong on ur truck...

Actually it would depend on which plan you chose. Plans such as the ExtraCare or PremiumCare would cover the A/C controller...
