I purchased a 2001 F-250, V-10, automatic 4 wheel drive with almost 112,000 on the speedo. I spoke to the original owner, I am the second owner, and found that the only things he had done to the truck was to use Mobil 1 10w30, change it every 3,500 miles, serviced the transmission every 35,000 miles. The spark plugs have never been changed and according to him have not blown any out. He had never heard about that problem. Also no transmission or ball joint problems. I had the ball joints checked and the have very little wear, not needing replacement. I also had the Oasis check run on the truck and the only major repair recorded was replacement of the signal light switch.
He pulled a 3 horse trailer, gooseneck, with living quarters all the trucks life.
The truck seems great, have put about 1,000 miles on it and the only problem so far has been the horn. It mysteriously quit. Blows new 15 amp fuses. Everything else is working on the truck.
Any input about the truck in general or advice about the horn will be greately appreciated.
Thanks, Stan

def. a good time to change the plugs.. just either be careful when u do it, and follow the tips on the various threads here about changing plugs ( paying CLOSE attention to teh torque value) or have a shop that u TRUST...
as for teh horn, u prolly got a bad ground, start at teh horn itself and work ur way back into the wiring..
if u decide to do plugs, u might aswell go full tuneup (air/fuel filter) and MAF cleaning too...
Thanks for the reply. I paid 12,000 for the truck. Seemed like a lot for the age and mileage but I think I got a good one? So far anyway. It was totally stock when purchased. I have installed a Rough Country 2 1/5 front leveling kit, a 1 1/2 inch block in the rear, 17x9 Greg Weld wheels and 325-70-17 Toyo Open Country all terrain tires. Also a cat back MBRP exhaust and K&N air filter element. Will post pictures as soon as I can.
I also bought an '01 a year or so ago and am just starting to look at mods. Had 49K on it and I love it. Trying to decide what to do with the suspension and exhaust. Does yours sit level now with the 2.5" kit and block or do you have a little rake yet? And, did it not have a block in the back stock? Mine has a 2" block stock and sits back high. Did you do anything with the steering when you did the kit and how does it drive and tow with the lift? I am concerned about disturbing the towing experience by changing the suspension geometry with the lift.
I measured front to rear stock and the rear was 2 1/2" higher than the front. I did not write down the measurements. I installed the Rough Country 2 1/2" leveling kit and the front was 1 1/2 higher than the rear. Since I didn't write down the measurements, I don't know if I measured wrong or the kit raised the truck more than the advertised 2 1/2.
The truck has a 2" block in the rear stock. I installed the Rough Country 1 1/2 add on rear block and the truck is level.
As far as I am concerned, the truck drives great. I have not had to do anything to the steering except center the steering wheel and set the toe in.
AS you know raising any truck raises the center of gravity and make it more suseptible to rolling over. We just can't slalom with our trucks.
Have not hauled or towed yet so don't know if any difference.
I installed the MBRP exhaust, which is 4" from the cat back with the dual tail pipes. The quality and the fit of the system is great even though I bought the aluminized instead of stainless.
I do not like the sound of the exhaust. I don't know if it is the design of the muffler of the V-10. I know V-10's have a unique sound. Don't know if other brands of exhaust would be any better.
Also have read other threads where other guys don't like the sound.
Glad you found a truck with such low mileage. I love this truck also.
