Hey all im new to the forum... Im 24, and a truck driver.
I have a question, I bought a awsome 1987 F150 yesterday, its got 115K on it, original motor, and trans. It was mechanic owned (1 owner) since new.
the day before i got the truck the last owner replaced the idle sensor. Now when you put the truck in park and rev it up a little she dies. Once in a great while it will idle up very slightly then lug down and die...
First check for vacuum leaks, there a bunch of hard plastic lines under the plenum to run things like smog and egr. they tend to crack overtime. Also if you have a volt meter and a haynes manual check all the coolant, airtemp, throttle position sensors. This vintage of trucks it seams almost impossible for the check engine light to come on when there is actually major problems. My guess I would change the throttle position sensor. It probably has never been changed and they wear out and get scetchy.
