Come on, he only has 45K on his truck. There shouldn't be any pinion / ring gear back lash. We are driving Fords here not chevys. LOL.
I have heard this clunk on my 05 4WD. It has only happened a couple of times, when it seems to think about what gear it should be in and then shifts to something else when I'm playing with the gas pedal in traffic. Other than that, everything has been great.
I had a similar clunk with my 2005. I thought it was the trans, but it turn out to be a bad coil that was causing the engine to misfire and make that sound. Jim
