If it seems like it's coming from the exhaust then there is a good chance that you have atleast one leaking injector.
My old 7.3 had a diesel smell under the hood and I have noticed others trucks did as well. High press. fuel lines may be subject to minor leaks at fittings etc. giving the odour.
See if you can see liquid fuel or spray in the engine or a spot where oily dust has suddenly appeared??
Lots old low tech diesels smell fuel but it doesn't seem to be a problem, don't know if is or is not a problem with this engine.
no its not coming from the exhaust its from under the hood i only smell it during the times i warm up my truck
As already mentioned check the filter cap, if not there then I would check the up-pipe bellows and the downpipe just to make sure they aren't leaking or the clamp on the turbo to clamp the downpipe on hasn't wiggled loose. I had that thing blow off of me one time and my turbo made a horrible racket til I got it clamped back on. I wouldn't suggest doing that for the most free flowing exhaust, it sounds horrible. Turbo farts don't go out the intake, they sound like bald tires squeeling on the highway trying to stop.
