Help!!!! C4 Tranny leak
Ok guys, it has been awhile since I've been on this forum. I have a 1977 F100 Custom with 302 and a C4 Tranny. As of lately, I have noticed tranny fluid collecting under the truck when its parked. I crawled under the truck and it looks like the tranny is leaking from the rear yoke. Also I noticed when I add tranny fluid, the engine begins to smoke. I don't know if I have a leak on the tranny tube.
Here is what happened, I was driving to work, she was shifting ok. I began pulling off at the traffic light and now everytime I begin driving, I hear a grinding noise and the truck doesn't want to move much. She will then "clank" into gear and off we go. Anyway, back to what happened, I was driving to work, normal "clanking", and I stopped at a red light, the light turned green, I hit the gas and nothing happened. The truck would rev up but would not go anywhere. I tried reverse and it went into gear without any problem. I tried drive again and nothing.
I am thinking of replacing the rear yoke seal and tranny pan gasket and filter. Any other suggestions. Would it be wise to replace the bearing and seal and how hard is this to do?

When it wouldnt drive forward is because it is low on tranny fluid, but it would go into reverse. I just need advise on what to try and do without completely rebuilding the tranny. Example, replacing the rear seal and bearing from the yoke, tranny gasket and filter, vent tube....etc
After I read posts #1 and #3, I had only one thought...the trans is HIS-TOR-E !!Replacing the extension housing seal and bushing....now...is like locking the barn after the horse is gone.
