I only get a constant clicking from the selonoid when I try to start my truck. It hasn't been started in a while, so I charged up the battery and that's all I got. I got m volt meter out and got a full 12v to the first terminal on the selonoid, but when I put power to the selonoid all I got was 6v-8v. Is that not enough for the truck to even try to turn over?
Thanks,
Sean
PS if it makes a difference its a 300 with a duraspark ignition.
Sounds like the batt. may be weak or corroded connections, a freshly charged batt. should have 13=14 volts. I have seen even the dull tarnish on the batt. terminals be enough to keep a engine from starting. I really like using the cheap plastic amp. gauge that you lay on the wire and it tell you how many amps. the starter is drawing while cranking and it will also tell you how many charging amps. the alt. is putting out. Sell for under 20. bucks.
I'll take the battery to napa to get tested this morning, but I sanded the terminals and the battery wires are all new. I also scuffed up all the grounds, chassis and motor.

ok curiosity got the better of me so I ran some tests on my own truck for comparrison.
On the hot (batt.) side of the selonoid I have 12.72volts while cranking, I get on opposite side 10.52 volts and it is cranking hard and strong. I would guess the selonoid is bad internally and and not making good contact.
make sure wires arent corroded and connections are good. a solenoid is only about 18 bucks soo its not difficult...try to jump your starter by just taking two wires and bypassing the solenoid. make sure your starter is ok. check relays and fuses too...neutral safety could also be a problem if you check all this and no start ..if worst comes to worst it might be in the ignition
There have been a rash of bad (brand new) solenoids lately.
I might suggest for a few more dollars you can buy peace of mind purchasing a genuine Motorcraft part or the Standard Automotive brand Blue Streak aftermarket.
I haven't heard of any of these being bad out of the box. (QC is much better than the Chinese parts)
