I have a 1995 F-450 460. It sat for over a year and I drove it about 500' ,put it in reverse, backed up then back to forward and I have no forward gears. Reverse works great. Do you think maybe there is just a valve in the valve body stuck or something deeper in the trans. It has maybe 40,000 miles on a rebuild. Fluid is full. Any suggestions would be great. It is for sale and a guy came with cash and no go. Thanks Jeff
Yup, drive around in reverse a while, get it warmed up, then try drive, 2, low, pause a bit between each shift, see if you can get it to unstick. Its probably going to come unstuck with some persistence, shifting in and out of forward, trying each forward gear, pausing, then moveing to the next one, until it can loosen the bugger thats stuck. Might take a while, but once you get it working drive it around a bunch. Also, before the next guy comes with cash, perhaps it should be driven and then parked just before they get there. Dont start it until they are there when they come :-) Make sure its as is where is sale and honestly, I would let them know you had a sticky solenoid if your conscience says too. Really, depends. I bet if you get it unstuck and let it sit a week and then run it it will not stick again. Another option is to repalce the tranny fluid and filter before running it too much but thats up to you too.
Thanks guys, The guy who wants it knows it's history and he was even the last one who drove it. But yes I by no means would never outright lie to someone about a vehicle and if it had problems. I am an honest guy. I will try what you guys said and see if it works. Thank you for your input.
